deena & ozzy

Seeing that college starts in literally three weeks, thoughts of school supplies are starting to creep back into the back of my mind. I've bought tons of clothes (no more uniforms!), a few pairs of shoes and my schoolbag.
I bought it about two weeks ago at Urban Outfitters. (I really need to tell you about that day.) This lovely Deena & Ozzy creation ($49) will serve as my first real schoolbag in five years. After going through high school with humongous purses and tortured shoulders, I needed two straps. Just the walk from the metro to the school is going to kill me.

Now that all the craziness that inevitably comes with the end of high school is finally out of the way, I can tell you about Mallzee.

In a world where we have multiple social networks literally at our fingertips, it's a wonder how there aren't dozens centered around online shopping. Think about it. While you sit at your laptop, credit card in hand, ready to make a purchase you might feel guilty about later, you're usually alone. There isn't anything social about online shopping. Friends don't get together to go online shopping.

With Mallzee, you can choose. The software determines which products you'll like based on 180 brands. You build your own mall and then people can buy from it. Every time someone buys from the mall you created, you earn a percentage. If that does not sound welcoming, I don't know what does.

Be sure to sign up!

flowery red purse

One of my younger cousins graduated from elementary school today. Being the nice person that I am and not having exams to study for, I went to watch him get the diploma. Here's what I wore:

Sandals: H&M
Jeans: I'm actually not sure - gift

Tank top: Garage
Vest: Forever 21
Bag: Gift from a relative, from Italy (LEATHER!)

Isn't it so pretty? I can't stop looking at it. I needed a purse like this, good thing I didn't buy it!

far & wide

For most, Canada does not come to mind when thinking of travel destinations. I mean really, who says, "Let's take a trip to Canada!"? Canada has tons of travel experiences; we just don't necessarily know about them. The solution?

Frommer's Far & Wide: A Weekly Guide to Canada's Best Travel Experiences

Written by nine authors (including Patricia Gajo, who I would like to thank for sending me a copy), this guide provides all the information you need and more about events and activities Canada has to offer.
Everything is conveniently split up into weeks. For example, want to make plans for the first week of July? Turn to page 158.

The obvious purpose of this book is to provide travel experiences, however it is also deeply educational. I live in Canada and I was not aware of the majority of them. Reading it without the immediate intention of actually making plans is very interesting.
This isn't just any travel guide; it's organized and anyone can learn a thing or three while still on the first page. I strongly recommend picking up a copy.

i'm back

Hello, internet.
I'm officially done high school! Yesterday was my last exam. Countdown to prom: 8 days. It's crazy how fast time has been passing! I start college in exactly two months.
I just realized I missed the second anniversary of this blog. It was on May 30.

Secondary five was so many things: wonderful, stressful, lovely, insane. I could seriously write a book about it. Speaking of writing, it's what I haven't been doing much of this past year. (I didn't know it was possible to have so many tests and projects simultaneously.) So to celebrate my first real day of summer, I'm writing to you.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know I haven't abandoned a sinking ship. I have some shtuff planned for the summer (outfit posts, anyone?) and I intend to sit at my laptop in sweet, sweet AC for as long as possible before school starts.

tiny rant

Well, look at that! Another month just went by, and I still have as much homework as before. I don't think I can explain the quantity of work one gets with nine classes.
I just wanted to share something awesome (well, in context). Yesterday, I went to the Holocaust Memorial at the War Museum in Ottawa. You know who was there? Prime Minister Harper. You know who I met? Prime Minister Harper. The picture will be sent to me eventually.

I'm done being a nerd now.

slight change

THIS is the new URL for XOXO, Nina.

www.xoxonina.com will NOT redirect you back here. That link, my old, perfect, beloved domain, got kidnapped. Sigh. Sad face.

sigh of relief

Remember how I said that if I got accepted to every school I applied to, I would treat myself to something nice? That just happened.
GUESS, $125
A conditional acceptance to a private college calls for sparkles. (So does prom.)

one month later

College acceptance #1 came yesterday! Conditionally, of course. So I still have to pass the rest of the year.
That being said, I have tons to do, but I just realized I haven't written in over a month.
I wanted to show you one of the most magnificent watches I've ever seen.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Watch, $200.
$200 for a watch is more of an investment than just a random splurge, but sometimes it's good to treat yourself. If I get into every school I applied to, I am going to treat myself to something very, very nice. You'll be the first to know.

lanvin spring/summer 2012

Lanvin's ad campaigns never fail to amaze me. If you feel squeamish around reptiles, don't bother.

What do you think?

56 seconds of eye candy. Those clothes are absolutely flawless, and Karlie Kloss can make anything work. Thoughts?

did your heart just melt like mine did?

You'll have to excuse my obsession with Ed Westwick for now.

Thank you everyone for all your comments! I'm preparing for exams right now but I will get back to all of you soon!

If you haven't already, you should read
something Tavi wrote on Rookie. I am talking to teenage girls when I say this. Tavi and Ed in one post? This is just too much awesomeness. Thank me later.

Hi everyone! I haven't had any time to write much lately because of school. I don't really like that, because my posting has gone from more than once a day to maybe (if I'm lucky) once a month. I used to imagine writing would be more frequent after I apply to college in about a month from now, but it's not so simple anymore. I'll only officially be accepted in July, so there's no time to be lazy.
That's terrible.

Anyway, I just wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, no matter how late I am. I hope 2012 is amazing for all of you! Thank you so much for sticking around this long. This is going to be a pretty memorable year for me, and I'm really looking forward to it. Don't go anywhere.

face it by cloth in a box

I can't begin to explain how much I detest washing makeup off my face. It's the worst part of my day and it's almost not even worth it sometimes. While I get ready every morning, all I can think about is how much I'm going to dread washing it off later. I hate scrubbing and scrubbing with the same old rough washcloth every night. It hurts and obviously does more bad than good. I'm sure everyone agrees with me, am I right?
Well, all those wasted efforts can finally come to an end!

Designed in Montreal, Face It is a makeup-removal cloth made specifically for the face and neck by Cloth in a Box.
The incessant task of washing your face properly should not have to be something we don't want to do. It's something meant to help our skin and pores. Here's what I mean:
Face It is heart-shaped, not a boring square. It's easier to clean your whole face.

It also has pockets for your hands, so holding it is simple and practical.
This fabulous piece of material is what renders washing your face a task to look forward to. I've tried it several times so far and it really does work! Made with microfibers and soft edges, this cloth isn't abrasive to skin and feels wonderful.
Since this is currently a patent product, buying it online is the only option. For more information, visit their About Us page. Also, I encourage reading/watching the testimonials should you have any doubts. To order your Face It, click here.
